The arrival of Pope Benedict XVI made event. All, however, was made to make this journey insubstantial. Benedict XVI, said to be, does not have the charisma of John Paul II. It is not its mobilization capacity, especially among young people. It is a conservative, whose dogma can no longer tell anyone.
The event is hardly reports of Church and State, the problem, so difficult in France of secularism. When the President of the Republic reiterated his design of a "positive secularism", expressed his expectation that religions contribute to give meaning and find solutions to issues of ethics, Benedict XVI has not added. In France, the Catholic Church is on the defensive. It is for her to recognize, despite the fall of vocations and practitioners, as a partner of the debates in society. Benedict XVI recalled only that it would be a pity forgets, in France, the civilizing role of the Catholic Church. And it is on this point that the interventions of the Pope were marked, especially in his Parisian stage. He was able to show what it would lose to forget the Catholic heritage.

Are we therefore losing The "word". Surprise! Benedict XVI, without nothing compromising of the theologian, recalled with great pedagogical talent, that the Catholic religion was that French civilization was built from the monasteries, a civilization of the "word". He pointed out at the same time without sacrificing any of the tricks of modern communication that, precisely, the culture of the floor was buried under his "idols".
The word, instead of the communication, it is, according to Benedict XVI, first get listening to, the true meaning "of obedience", i.e. register in the floor of an "other", to know hear God in the Christian tradition, and the floor, devoutly conserved, expressed in books. Is no speech nor without community, bringing together regularly around it. And rallies organized this weekend on the Pope, very ritualisés in their simplicity, have been able to produce their humble and essential dimension forgotten. The floor, built in the Christian tradition, still recalled, is a full commitment of the human being, a provision of the body and the spirit, the meaning is expressed in the singing of the Psalms. It is also the principle of a distinction between deserving last and the short-lived, mobile and the immobile, essentially and passenger, the true and false. It could be more upstream. Yet, by repeating the history of monasticism, quoting the fathers of the Church, Benedict XVI was subtly feel the urgency of a heritage that we are perhaps bury.
But there is a second point where the Pope took the French view in wrong way: he spoke "of hope". "Don't be afraid", he repeated in each of its interventions, using the formula once addressed to French youth by John Paul II. The words is probably for a technical civilization so bewildered that a few years ago the German philosopher Hans Jonas had condemned the "principle of hope" his colleague Ernst Bloch to him a "principle of responsibility." Dangers and threats of a technique which has become too powerful, should refrain. This is not the words of Benedict XVI invited instead to examine what "hope" is such innovation of human freedom.
Benedict XVI is back in Rome. The race to idols has already resumed. The Medef Ethics Committee has forgotten that "insatiable greed is an idolatry" and that "the love of money is the root of all evil". The Minister of Justice will not change the recidivism Act, even if "never, in our judgments, we should confuse the sin, which is unacceptable, and the sinner, which we do not judge the State of consciousness, and in any event, is always capable of conversion and forgiveness". It will continue to divorce as if the marriage was not inseparable. But tell us, communications experts are already selling the Benedict XVI model to their customers.
